Introduction
Located at the center of downtown of Jeju city, Designated as the national treasure No. 322, Gwandeokjeong is one of the most familiar landmark for citizens used as a meeting place or milestone to locate other places. In 1448 during the reign of King Sejong, Jeju minister Shin Sukcheong constructed this building in order to train soldiers and build martial spirit. The name "Gwandeok" was originated from the phrase "Saigwankeok" which means archery is a virtue as it improves physical fitness and cultivates mind during peace and protects the nation during the war. On the girder are painted ten animals symbolizing longevity(Shibjangsaengdo), the landscape of Jeokbyeok(Jeokbyeokdaejeopdo), and hunting(Daesuryeopdo) and the framed caligraphy is known as done by prince Angyeong of Joseon Dynasty.
